This club was started towards the end of 2011 going into the start of 2012 and was created to fill in an area of New Zealand that is known to have plenty of cavies (Guinea Pigs). One of the founding members asked a current committee member of  the Auckland Cavy Club for their input and help to once again start a cavy and rabbit club in the greater Northland area. Because there was a previous club in this area some years ago, the new club founders thought it would be best not to use the same name hence the choice was made to call the club: The Northern Rabbit and Cavy Club .

The Club holds shows in Whangarei at St John's Golden Church Hall, Kamo Rd, Whangarei
